Experimental investigation into the integration of solid desiccant packed beds with oscillating heat pipes for energy efficient isothermal adsorption processes

Abstract The heat of adsorption released during physical water vapour on solid desiccants increases its surface pressure consequently decreasing capacity. In packed beds, this raises the bed temperature subsequently increasing cooling load and energy required for regeneration desiccants. study, we experimentally investigated helically coiled oscillating pipes (HCOHPs) using ethanol, methanol deionized respectively as working fluids integrated with beds varying configurations towards isothermal adsorption. results show average reduction varied output from thermal performance HCOHPs. fully (FPB) ethanol HCOHP (EOHP) achieved maximum 14.0 °C. annulus (APB) (WOHP) a drop 10.1 °C. Adsorption peak reductions other hand were strongly dependent start-up. Maximum 20.8 °C in Mass Transfer Zone (MTZ) 1 was attained by FPB-EOHP system. For APB, 13.2 °C MTZ 3 recorded Small APB (SAPB)-Methanol (MOHP) rates FPB influenced mal-distribution flow within increased slightly integration 1.47 × 10?06 kg/s FPB-EOHP. SAPB-WOHP 1.21 × 10?05kg/s. Medium (MAPB) did not appear to be Overall, performances systems found partly configuration, HCOHPs’ transfer resistance between evaporators vessel walls. We recommend further optimization system parameters investigation potential future practical applications.
